Crew cuts: Perspectives from the 360 team Close

Road to Wolong

Posted on January 10, 2013

Ten years ago when Sue and I came to Wolong, we traveled the long road. This time, we remembered that experience and warned our fellow travelers of the drive. The steep mountains, the shear drop offs next to raging rivers and, of course, the 2.5 hour duration cramped in a 4×4. However, we were not prepared for the utter devastation of the roadway caused by the 2008 earthquake. Boulders the size of small homes littered the river bed, tunnels and retaining walls smashed to pieces and what had been blacktop was now all makeshift dirt road. Three hours of winding through an bone-jarring alien landscape of dirt, rock and small craters that at times, threatened to swallow us whole.
